My favorite historical figure is Carl Jung. I think his contributions to the science of the psyche are not as understood and explored as they deserve. I think from the beginning, his insights into schizophrenia and its links to myth and culture are amazing.

I think the past can only be judged through the lens of today if I put myself into the perspective of the time I am studying. Rights and liberties have been gained in all areas and idealizing the past for certain groups of people is easier than for others but the lessons we can extract from the noise the shifting prejudices and abuses of darker previous times can be invaluable to solving today's problems.
